Leopard Attacks Worker at Lakribam Tea Estate in Dibrugarh
A leopard attacked a worker walking inside Lakribam Tea Estate in Tingkhong, Dibrugarh district, on Sunday night, injuring his shoulders, hand and leg.
A leopard attacked a tea garden worker at Lakribam Tea Estate in Tingkhong, in Assam's Dibrugarh district, on Sunday night, Sentinel Assam reported on Tuesday.
The worker, Nakul Goraik, 42, was walking along a road inside the garden when the leopard suddenly attacked. He sustained injuries to his shoulders, hand and leg.
Goraik is undergoing treatment at the Tingkhong Tea Estate hospital.
"It appeared out of nowhere and leapt at me. I tumbled three times before I could even understand what was happening," Goraik said.
He said the leopard left only after he shouted for help.
"I started shouting as loudly as I could. It was only after I raised a hue and cry that the leopard fled," he said.
The attack has renewed concern among residents about the growing number of leopards in the area. Wildlife encounters are a standing hazard of living and working inside Assam's tea gardens, alongside the better documented conflict with elephants.
