The Tea Gardens the War Turned Into Airfields
In 1942 Assam's tea country was carved into the airfields that flew the most punishing supply run of the Second World War, one of them raised on a working tea estate's own grounds. The same monsoon sent half a million people on foot through the same tea country, going the other way.
