The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre is to be developed as a tea tourism hub, with a tea museum and better visitor facilities among five projects reviewed by the Assam government.

Chief Secretary Ravi Kota chaired a Governing Body meeting of GTAC on 12 August, India Today NE and Sentinel Assam reported. Five projects were reviewed under the tourism plan. A bust of Maniram Dewan, the first Indian tea planter, is also slated for unveiling.

Warehousing rules, auction hall upgrades, and tea-testing standards were also reviewed, along with routine steps to raise auction volume and exports.

Kota directed officials and stakeholders to implement the initiatives "in a coordinated and time-bound manner," and said the aim was to make GTAC a "modern and globally competitive platform for Assam tea."

No timeline was reported for the museum or the unveiling, and nothing has been announced about what either will hold.
